LAURA FRIEDMANN is a Colombian-born, Toronto-based producer, entrepreneur, and creator who explores gender equality, human rights, intergenerational trauma, diaspora, and healing through film, television, and digital/XR projects. Her non-traditional path, global experience, and diverse background as an editor, cinematographer, director graphic designer, marketer, strategist, and teacher, imbues her projects with a distinct perspective. These are skills she brings into her business and collaborations.
As the co-founder of Wrapped Productions, a company dedicated to crafting narratives that propel progress and uplift humanity, Laura spearheads the creation of compelling content, collaborations, and co-productions spanning features, series, documentaries and podcasts. Her award-winning work has been featured on CBC Gem, Prime Video, YesTV, CGoodTV, Tubi TV, and global platforms, including acclaimed projects like "GLIMPSES INTO THE SPIRIT OF GENDER EQUALITY (United Nations)" "BRAIDED TOGETHER," and the international decade-long documentary project "PORTRAITS IN FAITH."
Driven by a passion for justice, access, and innovation, Laura has championed women and diverse creatives in film through mentorship and community initiatives like Listo Calisto’s “Latin Forum”(2024), the Creative Sovereignty Lab (2021-22), The Big Pitch @TIFF (2021/2022), Native Film & Storytelling Institute (2017), and Breakthroughs Film Festival (2015-2020). Recently, Laura has maintained her steadfast dedication to innovation and pushing the boundary of storytelling and has embarked on developing projects in the interactive, AI and XR spaces.
In 2023 she was selected to the Canadian Academy Executive Residency Program and NSI/EAVE Access BIPOC Producers Program, and is a fellow of Hot Docs Deal Maker, Whistler Film Festival Doc Lab, Netflix/Banff Diversity of Voices, BANFF Spark Accelerator for Women, BIPOC TV & FILM Showrunner Bootcamp, and the WIFT/Bell Media Leadership Program.
KYLE SCHMALENBERG is an award-winning director and producer at Wrapped Productions Inc. He has produced the fictional and documentary short films ANOTHER WORLD (2021) with Caramel Futures and WHO WE ARE (2019) which are both streaming on Prime, CGood.tv and Tubi. He wrote and directed GLIMPSES INTO THE SPIRIT OF GENDER EQUALITY, a feature-length doc made in collaboration with the United Nations, which had its virtual premiere at the Commission on the Status of Women and was officially selected to a number of festivals winning 4 awards (2 for best documentary). Most recently, BRAIDED TOGETHER (short), which he co-wrote and co-directed, won Audience Choice Award at imagineNATIVE (2022) and Vox Popular (2022).
Kyle is a recipient of the 2022 Rogers x Black Screen Office Script Development Fund with the series GIRLCOTT (writer) and the CFC x Netflix Calling Card Accelerator Program. His current projects in development include the feature drama TENAYA (writer, co-director) with which he attended the 2022 Banff/Netflix Diversity of Voices program, the feature documentary that attended Hot Docs Dealmaker 2022, THE PAINTING (producer, cinematographer), and the series THE WARD (writer).
He was co-creator and facilitator at the Native Film & Storytelling Institute 2018 and the Creative Sovereignty Lab 2021-22. He participated in the Banff/Netflix Diversity of Voices program 2022 and was a Black Screen Office delegate to TIFF 2022. He is also a licensed psychotherapist in Toronto.
